FUN, FRIENDSHIP & FRESH AIR, GUARANTEED!
OUR 13th SEASON WILL COMMENCE ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 29th, 2017 AND RUN THROUGH TO EARLY APRIL 2018
The ONLY UK boules group who play continuously throughout the whole winter period, twice a month, in virtually ANY weather conditions on a unique terrain.
The playing surface changes dramatically from meeting to meeting
This is the official web site of The Ballater Boules Challenge (Petanque). The 'Challenge' takes place fortnightly on a Sunday at 10.30am meeting at The Pavilion, Monaltrie Park, Ballater, Royal Deeside, Cairngorms National Park, Aberdeenshire, SCOTLAND, UK from late October to early April each year where ample pistes are available for play.
The delightful village of Ballater is located alongside the picturesque River Dee on Royal Deeside in the Scottish Highlands. The village is approximately 8 miles from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II summer retreat Balmoral Castle and within the scenic Cairngorms National Park.
The game of Boules originating in France is now played worldwide by all ages. The favourite outdoor winter game of Ballater has always been curling and indeed is still played regularly when the weather provides sufficient low temperatures to create the correct surface.
Due to the change in climate and local interest The Ballater Boules Challenge was introduced in 2005 to 'fill in' when curling is unable to be played and now attracts an average of 40 players to each gathering.
Our web site will be kept very simple (like our version of the game....'Ballater Boules, Ballater Rules') it will provide a flavour of our gatherings at Monaltrie Park by providing images, results and reports of events.
Always a very warm welcome will be offered to visitors and locals alike, remember the emphasis is on FUN with a tad of competition. It's really simple, just bring yourself and a partner if you wish, EVERYTHING else will be provided including a simple teach in if you have never played before, equipment and a partner if you don't have one, in fact, just bring yourself!
Take a look at our gathering dates on the next page and see if they suit your personal calendar, there is absolutely no commitment for continuous attendance.
You know it makes sense!
